(failure) 10. - 12. September 2021
The board of directors of the Hanseverein Schwerte e. V. decided with a heavy heart to cancel the Pannekaukenfest on the 2nd weekend in September. Thus, this year, too, Schwertes largest and most famous festival with free entry, the Pannekaukenfest, is canceled. The board of the Hanseverein is reacting to the decision of the working group of the Pannekaukenfest.
Due to the unforeseeable development of the Corona Delta variant and the basic requirements for events with several thousand visitors, the required overall concept cannot be met in terms of personnel. The top priority for us is the protection of our visitors and we do not want to use an admission control to determine who is allowed to visit the festival and who is not. The Pannekaukenfest has always been known to be a folk festival for all citizens and every guest was and is still welcome. After a long discussion and weighing up the possible risks, the organizational team made the decision to take another break in 2021, in favor of general health. In this way we meet our responsibility towards the visitors and the volunteer helpers and organizers, who take on the planning and organization.
As with the first pandemic-related cancellation, our artists have received another offer for the next year. Appreciation for our companions who have been loyal to the festival for years is important to us. It has always been an obligation for us to have artists from our city and neighboring cities in our program.
It hurts to look at the beautiful pictures of the positive development of the Pannekaukenfest over the last 20 years, but we just want to be sensible and plan and carry out a carefree festival. Even if there are currently easing and certain celebrations are possible again, we are not holding them.
We finance ourselves purely from donations from our sponsors and we have an obligation to them to handle the money carefully. Nobody wants a fourth wave or another lockdown. However, we have decided to look into the near future of the rest of the year with foresight and reason. Alternatively, as a precaution, we are also discussing other concepts in order to be well prepared in 2022. We ask for your understanding for the decision. Our respect goes to the organizers who can implement their cultural offer this year, albeit in a partially modified form.
We are happy to invite you to support us in our work with donations or voluntary help. We welcome every helping hand.
We wish you all the best and stay healthy or get well.
